Have taught me that there are SEO or search engine positioning exercises that are essential to guarantee the creation of a digital strategy with solid foundations: one of these exercises is the analysis of digital competition.
In the first part, I will cover what it is, its importance and the most relevant characteristics of a digital competition analysis, as well as the tools that I can recommend to you to carry out this marketing action.
In the second part you will find practical exercises and various dentist database resources that I developed with Google Colab, SerpApi and Python to help you in the analysis of competition in Google results, Google Ads and Google My Business ads (local SEO).
For all the exercises I give you, except the SEMrush one, it is important that you create a free account on serpapi ; it is the tool that you will see in all the resources that I share with you in the second part of the exercise.

What is competitor analysis?
A digital competition analysis is a why did we just tell a client that we are not going to continue working with them? methodological and structured exercise that allows us to identify our position – or that of our client – compared to digital competitors in a specific segment, with a special focus on understanding what we have, what we lack, and what our greatest strengths and weaknesses are.
What does it take to do a competitive analysis?
Just like when we cook at home, to do an analysis fans data we need to know 3 main things:
I am not a fan of recommending tools, especially if they are competitive intelligence tools. Not because they are bad, on the contrary, these tools allow us to understand and go deeper when doing a competition analysis. But sometimes, the monthly or annual cost can be beyond the reach of “tighter” budgets.
