Optimizing image size in WordPress

Ss.For years I’ve used the WP Smush plugin on all my WordPress sites . Its downside is that it sends images to a remote server for optimization and has a lot of limits, including a maximum image size (5MB). I can’t say that this plugin is bad – the very good rating of the plugin in the WordPress repository speaks for itself. But there are a huge number of plugins for image optimization.

I recently came across a plugin called EWWW Image Optimizer that has a similar amount of downloads and a similar rating.

Setting up this plugin is much easier

A small advantage is that all optimizations take place directly on your web server.

Plugin installation
Install the plugin and activate it. After activation, the installation screen opens, where you choose to use the plugin in the first step. I chose ” Save storage space ” and in the second group of boxes ” Stick with free mode for now “. Confirm this step by clicking the Next button .

In the second setting step, you choose options for working with images. I will go through the individual setting options with you:

ted to WEBP format. I recommend leaving it off.
Max Width and Max Height – if you upload a high resolution photo from your phone or camera, it’s mostly useless for web use. What this plugin does is automatically shrink the photo to the specified dimensions after taiwan phone number data uploading. The original high-resolution photo will therefore be as large as you specify. The recommended resolution is 1920×1920, which is sufficient.

phone number data
Embedded Help – enables loading of help from an external server. You can leave it on.
Anonymous Reporting – sending anonymous statistics about the use of the plugin to its author. It offers a 10% discount on the paid version for this, but I recommend leaving it off.

After saving the settings in the previous step

The newly uploaded files will be optimized automatically. In the test photo that I tried to upload for the purposes of the article, the

A 3.9 MB photo was generated into a lower resolution photo of 380 KB, which is the perfect size for web use. You can therefore devote yourself to your content and do not have to think about optimizing the photos you upload to the website.

Bulk optimization
If you’ve been uploading the plugin to an existing working site where you already have tons of photos, I recommend doing a 1win increases betting limits for popular sporting events bulk image optimization.

You do this by clicking on Media in the menu and selecting Bulk Optimize.

Then click on the blue Optimize images button. Images will be optimized and their size will be pleasantly reduced.

Notice
As with any plugin installation, you should backup both your database and site files before installing and using this plugin. In this case, it is sufficient to backup the wp-content folder .

The plugin overwrites the original images bw lists with an optimized version, so if you no longer have the original images on your computer, you would lose them and only have an optimized, reduced version.
