Proofreading is a job that not everyone can do. Some people find it unfunny or even very boring , others get on their nerves, others can’t handle the rules or simply can’t see mistakes in the written text, even if they studied bohemian studies. So what should a person who wants to be a successful and recognized proofreader fulfill ?
1. The proofreader must know the rules
Of course. The basic equipment of a proofreader includes knowledge of at least 99% of all the intricacies of our beautiful mother tongue (when it comes to correctors uae whatsapp number data of Czech texts). In order to master the rules, one must have aptitudes, or make up for their lack with diligence. In the second case, this work will be a pain for him , and he will know it anyway from the results.
We will eat, children! X We will eat children!
2. The proofreader must have a sense of the logic of statements
The ideas that their author transfers into the text are sometimes incomplete, there is a confusion of concepts and sometimes they are not far from total chaos. Even in the texts of intelligent and educated people, there are errors caused by inattention or an excess of ideas that are illogically connected. Therefore, inappropriate word order, which often differs only in subtle nuances, is not an exception. But interchanges tend to be more fun:
For example : It is evident that it will end by fiat.
What did the author want to say? He meant that it was obvious that it would end in failure . It is up to the proofreader to catch those mistakes that the author of the text thinks are not mistakes. After all, no proofreader wants to hear later “And you couldn’t warn me that how much more can you earn by selling on marketplaces other than amazon? wrote nonsense there? ”
3. The proofreader must have a sense for the stylistic side of the text
Erroneous verb conjugations occur so often that it hurts proofreaders . You will probably encounter a phenomenon called zeugma most often. This term re rich data fers to the neglect of the double bond. Still don’t know what we mean? It is an error when coherently connected clauses require a different conjunction, but at the same time only one, the same, is left for them.
For example: Before and after the start of the race, the service cleaned up the mess on the track.
Why is this wrong? It is enough to check the prepositional and noun bindings, i.e. “before” , “after” and “start” . It is possible to say/write “after the start” , but you cannot use the conjunction “before the start” – the noun in this case requires a different preposition. Although we know what the author wanted to convey, this is a stylistic error that should not appear in a public text.
